Spring Solstice
Spring Solstice
What do diné Indigenous people do when spring time comes? first, we don’t go by the white man’s calendar that marks March 21st as spring equinox. the Diné people pay attention to the changing weather patterns. when diné hears the thunder during a snowstorm, that is the time the holy beings are waking up the critters that hibernate during the long winter months.
dilyéhé - pleiades
diné use the cycles of pleiades to determine when to plant their corn. that moment is when we are not able to see dilyéhé in the night skies. this is the indicator for the beginning and ending of the planting season. because of this, much respect and significance is attached to following and living with the natural cycles of seasonal weather and planting related to dilyéhé.
